Alison E. May Johnston, Artist
My name is Alison E. May Johnston and I'm a self-taught artist. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL and currently live in the deserts of Nevada. I've been a creative ever since I could hold a crayon and have always been drawn to vivid color (from the crayon box to nature)! Instead of pursuing my dream of becoming an artist, after high school I chose a more "traditional" route; graduating from a top university with degrees in Psychology and Communications and pursuing a career in finance for over three decades. Although my career choice was far from my passion, it was a gateway to me establishing many wonderful relationships and successfully participating in my first art show out West (reigniting my artist flame)!
While working in corporate America, painting became an emotional release for me; by day I was the regulation-following, analytical professional and after work, I became the paint-loving creative who enjoyed marrying realism with abstract. Later in my financial career, several close family members and a good friend of mine were stricken with cancer (with 3 succumbing to it). This placed a spotlight for me on how precious life is; the importance of pursuing your dreams and giving back to the world around me. Through the support of an "amayzing" husband, I was able to retire early and claim the title of "full time artist".
My overall artistic objective is to convey love, joy, and positivity through my art. I often paint people of different ethnic backgrounds in my works because I didn't see a lot of that type of diversity in art growing up. People have often told me that they feel a spiritual connection to my art (mission accomplished)! Bringing people happiness through my artwork is a dream come true for me!
I believe that we're all constantly evolving and this is very true of me and my artwork. I was exposed to the world of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) in April 2022 and did my first mint a month later! I am becoming increasingly interested in this area and find it a perfect compliment to my static artwork.
